Live and study in Suzhou at the Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University (XJTLU) in a city where you will be surrounded by modern technology, a rich history, and ancient culture. At XJTLU, all courses are taught in English, and fields of study include the sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, architecture and design, communications, media, business, humanities, and social sciences—all combined with the Chinese language and in-depth study of China, taught by some of Asia’s foremost experts. You will also have practical learning opportunities for a more immersive experience during the semester.

Overview

Jump into your semester in China quickly by taking APA’s comprehensive 4-day Orientation Program in Suzhou, including logistics set-up, campus and dorm tour, city tour, program orientation sessions, cultural activities, and meeting with the local student community.

Participate in APA’s off-campus components, including excursions to other cities in China, optional internships, APA community events, volunteering opportunities, and alumni networking.

Take courses with local Chinese students in the same classroom, without language barriers, thanks to the English environment throughout the campus, including in the classroom.

Register for one semester for a start, then continue your study for one more semester for the non-degree program.

Take advantage of the friendly one-stop International Student Support Services at XJTLU and a multitude of XJTLU student clubs.

Enjoy the Venice of China—Suzhou, a city with pristine UNESCO-designated gardens dating back to the 11th century, a spiderweb of ancient waterways that flow into the Grand Canal (the largest canal in the world), and the well-known, high tech Suzhou Industrial Park.

Stay on track for your degree. Receive officially granted certificate and transcript (with credits attached) for completion.

Live with XJTLU Chinese students and other international students in high-quality apartments.

Rest assured knowing that the APA on-site coordinator and other staff are there to provide continued support throughout the semester.

University Introduction

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is an international joint university based in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. Founded in 2006 through a partnership between the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University, it is the first Sino-British joint venture between research-led universities.

The university, which primarily focuses on science, technology, engineering, architecture, and business with a secondary focus on English, is recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a non-profit educational institution.

Course

XJLTU offers over 1000 courses in English including disciplines from 50 departments. You can take a minimum of 10 XJTLU credits (about two courses) and a maximum of 25 XJTLU credits (about 5 courses). On average, each XJTLU course is about 5 credits (similar to 3 U.S. university credits). Some modules require the previous study in the subject or in related disciplines.

To ensure smooth credit transfer after the program, APA suggests that you have your course selections approved by your home university before registering for them. Syllabi can be provided in advance upon request.
